A Nigerian court denied bail to Bauchi’s finance commissioner and three others accused of financing terrorism with $9.7 million.
A federal high court in Abuja has denied bail to Yakubu Adamu, Bauchi State’s Commissioner of Finance, and three others accused of terrorism financing involving $9.7 million.
The court, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, ruled that the severity of the charges, strong evidence, and threat to national security justified pre-trial detention.
The defendants, who pleaded not guilty, face multiple counts under Nigeria’s Terrorism and Money Laundering Acts related to alleged cash transfers approved by the state governor.
The case stems from activities between January and May 2024, with funds allegedly funneled through bureau de change operators to support a terrorist group.
An accelerated trial is set for January 13, 2026.
Adamu also faces a separate N4.6 billion money laundering case, in which he was previously granted bail.
