Nigeria dropped criminal charges against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan after Senate President Akpabio withdrew his defamation lawsuits.
The Nigerian federal government has dropped criminal defamation charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central, as confirmed by court documents filed on December 12, 2025.
The notice of discontinuance, signed by top prosecutors on behalf of Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi, ended proceedings in a case stemming from her televised allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello.
The withdrawal follows Akpabio’s public decision to withdraw all defamation lawsuits he had filed, including a ₦200 billion civil suit against Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing a spiritual experience.
The federal government provided no official explanation for the move, which marks the end of the criminal case, though the civil suit remains pending.
