Israel’s top public health official resigned on January 5, 2026, after leading vaccination efforts and health crises during the war and measles outbreak.
Dr. Sharon Alroy-Preis, Israel’s top public health official and a key figure in the country’s COVID-19 and measles responses, has resigned from her role, effective January 5, 2026.
She led national vaccination efforts, managed health crises during the war with Hamas, and combated vaccine misinformation, calling it “essentially murder” after 10 infants died in a measles outbreak.
She oversaw major public health initiatives including a digital immunization registry and climate preparedness programs.
The Health Ministry confirmed her departure but did not disclose reasons, and no successor has been named.
