Brisbane’s 2032 Olympics stadium design unveiled, sparking Indigenous and environmental opposition.
The design for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics main stadium, a 63,000-seat venue in Victoria Park, has been unveiled by Australian firms COX and Hassell with Japan’s Azusa Sekkei.
The project, part of 17 new or upgraded venues, aims to reflect Queensland’s natural and cultural identity with emphasis on sustainability and open views.
Site work is set to begin mid-2026, with officials confident in meeting the 2032 timeline.
The stadium will replace the Gabba for AFL and cricket and serve as a multi-use facility.
It faces opposition from Indigenous and environmental groups, including Save Victoria Park, who argue it threatens ancient trees and sacred land.
A legal application under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act seeks permanent site protection, pending review by Environment Minister Murray Watt.
A protest is planned for January 31.
