Amazon launches Alexa+, a new AI assistant with chatbot features, free for Prime members, ahead of CES 2026.

With chatbot features akin to ChatGPT and Google Gemini, Amazon has introduced Alexa+, a web-based generative AI assistant available at Alexa.com. All users have early access to the service, which supports task management, automated grocery ordering, document uploads, and smart home device integration. With a redesigned mobile app and a sidebar for easy access, it is free for Prime members and $20 per month for everyone else. Despite being commended for extending Alexa's capabilities beyond voice, early adopters have expressed concerns about performance and dependability, which has led to caution when using automated actions. In an effort to fortify its ecosystem in advance of CES 2026, the launch represents Amazon's official foray into generative AI.
