ABB has won contracts to build the world’s largest shore power system at the Port of Rotterdam, expected to begin operations in late 2028.
The project, led by Rotterdam Shore Power, will deliver over 100 megavolt-amperes of power to three container terminals through 35 connection points, enabling up to 32 ships to connect simultaneously.
Designed to reduce CO2 emissions by about 96,000 metric tons annually starting in 2030, the system supports the EU’s FuelEU Maritime Regulation and aims to cut air and noise pollution.
ABB will provide prefabricated infrastructure, control systems, and energy tracking tools, with multi-year service agreements included.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
