Union Minister Chouhan defends new rural jobs bill, counters Congress claims with audit data and funding details.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan accused the Congress of spreading misinformation about the new Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, calling it a "factory of lies" and dismissing its "MGNREGA Bachao Sangram" campaign as a cover for corruption.
He cited over 10.5 lakh social audit complaints of duplicate work, fake labor, and fund diversion under previous Congress-led governments.
Chouhan highlighted the new Bill’s ₹8.48 lakh crore funding—far exceeding the UPA’s ₹2 lakh crore—and emphasized expanded labor rights, including 125 days of employment assurance and stronger Gram Sabha powers.
He also announced 184 new climate-resilient seed varieties developed by ICAR and private entities, citing India’s rise as the world’s top rice producer.
The Congress announced a three-phase nationwide protest starting January 8.
