Uganda pauses Kigezi poverty program over data concerns, to resume after Jan. 15 election.
Uganda has temporarily suspended the "Boona Bagigahare Nyekundire" poverty program in Kigezi after the Catholic Church in Kabale raised concerns over unverified collection of personal data, including National Identification Numbers, without official communication.
The halt, ordered by Parliament Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa following a reconciliation meeting with church leaders, security officials, and the ruling NRM, aims to prevent confusion during the election period.
