The National Human Rights Commission has directed Leh’s administration and police to investigate allegations that a minor tribal Buddhist girl from Ladakh went missing in late December 2025 and was found in Srinagar with a Muslim boy.
The girl, now under a Child Welfare Committee’s care and reportedly suffering mental trauma, had her disappearance reported to Khalatse police, leading to an FIR under POCSO and BNS.
The NHRC, citing potential human rights violations, demanded a prompt, impartial probe and a report within seven days, stressing the need for medical, psychological, and legal support amid concerns over social pressures affecting the case.
