Citing safety concerns with lithium-ion batteries and in accordance with ICAO regulations, the DGCA has prohibited power banks on flights as of January 4, 2026. Ram Mohan Naidu, the minister of civil aviation, affirmed that the regulation, which prioritizes passenger and aircraft safety, is based on international best practices and research. After reviewing an inquiry report on recent IndiGo flight disruptions, the DGCA will take appropriate action. Over 2,200 daily flights have been restored, according to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers, who also commended the staff's tenacity. There are calls for improved communication and awareness campaigns because some travelers are still unclear about carry-on regulations.
