Five men arrested in Ghana for posing as anti-mining officials and extorting miners.
Five men were arrested in Ghana’s Eastern South Region on January 2, 2026, for allegedly impersonating National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) officials and extorting money from small-scale miners.
The suspects, dressed in security uniforms, were detained in Akwadum near Kibi while traveling in a Mitsubishi 4×4 pickup with registration GS 536–25.
They are accused of posing as NAIMOS operatives to demand payments from mining sites.
The suspects were handed over to the regional CID for investigation, are in custody, and cooperating with authorities.
Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing and warned that impersonating security personnel is a criminal offense punishable by law.
