A female Royal Bengal tiger was found dead in Kaziranga National Park on January 4, 2026, with officials attributing the death to infighting, based on a post-mortem conducted per NTCA guidelines.
The carcass, discovered in the Paschim Bimoli area, showed no signs of poaching or decomposition and was estimated to be 8–10 years old.
This marks the second tiger death from territorial conflict in the park within five months.
Kaziranga’s tiger population was 148 in 2025, and such conflicts are common in high-density areas.
In a separate incident, five individuals were arrested in November 2025 for illegally possessing and attempting to sell tiger bones.
