Drone strikes damaged El-Obeid’s power station on Sunday, causing a citywide blackout after a fire broke out, according to Sudan’s national electricity company. The attack occurred amid intensified fighting between Sudan’s army and the RSF in North Kordofan, where the RSF launched an offensive in the oil-rich region. Army-aligned forces, including the Joint Forces coalition, claimed to have retaken several strategic towns south of El-Obeid and advanced toward Dilling, a besieged city in South Kordofan facing famine. Over 15,000 people have been displaced from Kordofan states in the past week, adding to more than 11 million displaced since the war began in April 2023. Many now live in overcrowded, under-resourced areas with limited access to food, clean water, and medical care.
