Auckland swimmer Jono Ridler, 35, is set to begin a 1600km, 90-day solo swim from North Cape to Wellington along New Zealand’s East Coast starting January 5, 2026, to raise awareness about the environmental harm of bottom trawling.
The journey, part of the Swim4TheOcean initiative, will feature rotating shifts day and night with over 120 rest stops and six community stopovers.
Supported by marine conservation group Live Ocean, the effort aims to inspire public engagement and policy change to protect marine ecosystems.
