Adani Group launches 570 MW hydropower project in Bhutan with Bhutanese partner, under 2025 agreement.
The Adani Group has officially launched the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydro Electricity Project in Bhutan, the first major development under a 2025 MoU to build 5,000 MW of hydropower.
The project, valued at Rs 60 billion, is a joint venture with Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation, which holds a 51% stake, while Adani owns 49%.
Construction began in Thimphu with the presence of Bhutan’s Prime Minister and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani.
The run-of-river plant will operate under a BOOT model and is expected to be completed in five years, supporting Bhutan’s sustainable development goals and the Gelephu Mindfulness City vision.
