A 17-year-old resident at the Tulsa Boys’ Home was arrested after stealing a staff member’s car and fleeing the facility, leading to a high-speed chase that ended in a crash near downtown Tulsa.
The teen was hospitalized for evaluation and placed in juvenile custody.
The facility’s executive director, Carl Hilliard, confirmed the incident occurred Thursday evening and said staff immediately alerted law enforcement.
Hilliard emphasized the facility’s ongoing security upgrades, including a completed fence, new cameras, visitor screening, and a welcome center, along with increased staffing and wages.
An internal investigation is underway to determine how the keys were obtained.
Hilliard reiterated the home’s role as a foster care setting and its commitment to improving safety for youth and the community.
