University of Nebraska seeks $800M deal to buy Clarkson’s stake in Nebraska Medicine, pending Jan. 9 vote.
The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will consider a $800 million deal to end Clarkson Regional Health Services’ 50% stake in Nebraska Medicine, transferring full control to the university.
NU would pay $500 million for Clarkson’s share and $300 million for its property, while Clarkson plans a $200 million donation to UNMC.
The move aims to improve alignment but faces opposition from Nebraska Medicine, which calls it a "state takeover" and criticizes lack of consultation.
Despite the change, Nebraska Medicine will continue operating independently with no immediate impact on staff or services.
The decision is pending at a Jan. 9 meeting.
