Thair Maroki, 40, of El Cajon, California, was arrested on January 1, 2026, in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of Anthony Caprio III, 49, a man riding an electric bicycle on Route 73 in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, on December 29, 2025.
Authorities identified Maroki’s white 2022 Jeep Cherokee using surveillance footage and a license plate alert, leading to his detention in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
He faces second-degree vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident charges.
Caprio was struck around 12:15 a.m. and dragged at least a quarter-mile before the vehicle fled.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Maroki was scheduled to appear in court on January 2, with prosecutors seeking detention.
