On January 5, the Supreme Court will rule on bail requests made by Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and other defendants in the 2020 Delhi riots case, which resulted from demonstrations against the CAA-NRC. After hearing arguments from the Delhi Police and defense attorneys, the court, presided over by Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria, postponed rendering a decision. Defense attorneys contested the Delhi High Court's denial of bail, while prosecutors claimed the violence was premeditated and orchestrated and used speeches and digital evidence to prove conspiracy under UAPA. The accused are charged in connection with a case that led to over 700 injuries and 53 fatalities.
