Scotland plans to buy Ardrossan Harbour by end-2026 to prepare for the delayed Glen Rosa ferry, expected in 2027.
The Scottish Government is in advanced talks to buy Ardrossan Harbour from Peel Ports, aiming to upgrade it for larger ferries like the delayed Glen Rosa, now expected in service by early 2027.
First Minister John Swinney said the acquisition, targeted for completion by year-end 2026, is key to restoring reliable ferry links to the Isle of Arran after the MV Caledonian Isles’ 18-month absence.
Despite the Glen Rosa’s cost soaring to £460 million, Swinney affirmed the vessel must be completed, though no blank cheque will be issued.
The harbour upgrade is critical to support future ferry operations and improve regional connectivity.
