Children’s entertainer Raffi Cavoukian and music journalist Nardwuar the Human Serviette were among 13 British Columbians named to Canada’s Order of Canada in late 2025, as announced by Governor General Mary Simon on New Year’s Eve. Raffi, known for hits like “Baby Beluga,” was promoted to Companion, the highest rank, for his lasting contributions to children’s music, environmentalism, and social responsibility, having first received the honor in 1983. Nardwuar was named a Member for his influential work in independent music and community radio. Eleven other B.C. residents were also recognized for national impact in fields including neuroscience, law, animal welfare, forensic nursing, and open-access publishing.
