Niagara-on-the-Lake held its 34th annual New Year’s Day Levee at Navy Hall on January 1, 2026, drawing about 120 attendees despite cold weather.
The event, rooted in Canadian and European traditions, featured music by the 41st Regiment of Foot Fife and Drum Corps, toasts to King George III, the U.S., and Canada, and remarks from local leaders including Mayor Gary Zalepa and MPP Wayne Gates, who highlighted Canada’s sovereignty and unity.
A symbolic cannon blast toward the Niagara River commemorated the War of 1812.
