FBI foiled ISIS-inspired plot by 18-year-old in NC, arresting him before attack.
On New Year's Eve 2025, the FBI arrested 18-year-old Christian Sturdivant after foiling an ISIS-inspired terrorist plot in Mint Hill, North Carolina. Sturdivant was accused of trying to give material support to a foreign terrorist group. He had previously worked for the FBI since 2022. According to authorities, he intended to use knives and a hammer to attack a grocery store and fast-food restaurant, specifically targeting Jews, Christians, and members of the LGBTQ community. His manifesto detailed a "martyrdom op" and stated that he intended to die fighting police. A two-week undercover investigation was carried out by the FBI, which had been keeping an eye on him since late December 2025 following his return to pro-ISIS social media activity. At his house, weapons, notes, and a comprehensive plan were discovered. Sturdivant could spend up to 20 years in prison because the plot was foiled before any attacks took place. This case, which comes after another New Year's Eve plot in California, is a part of larger initiatives to combat domestic extremism.
