Excel Entertainment sells minority stake to Universal Music Group to expand global reach while keeping creative control.
Excel Entertainment, founded by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, has sold a minority stake to Universal Music Group, part of Comcast’s Universal Studios, to expand its global production scale and reach.
The deal, finalized after months of talks, allows Excel to retain creative control and majority ownership while gaining access to Universal’s international resources.
The partnership aims to boost large-format projects and strengthen Excel’s presence in film and streaming, following a 2025 slate that received critical acclaim but underperformed commercially.
Upcoming projects include Don 3, Mirzapur: The Film, and Jee Le Zaraa.
An official announcement is set for January 5, 2026.
