A curfew is in place in parts of Tripura until Feb. 28 due to fears of militant infiltration and illegal crossings from Bangladesh.
A night curfew has been imposed in parts of Tripura’s Gomati district from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. until February 28 due to intelligence about potential infiltration by militants from Bangladesh-based groups PCJSS and UPDF, as well as unauthorized movement of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas.
The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, restricts gatherings of more than four people and weapon possession, except for security forces.
The measure applies within 300 meters of the border near the Chittagong Hill Tracts, a region with ongoing ethnic tensions.
Residents in the zone are exempt.
The 856-kilometer border remains porous, heightening concerns over smuggling and cross-border crime.
