Canada deported 366 Nigerian nationals from January to October 2025, the highest number in over a decade, with 974 more pending removal, according to CBSA data.
Nigeria ranked ninth among top deportation countries and fifth in pending cases, reflecting a sharp rise from previous years.
The increase is part of a broader enforcement surge, with nearly 400 removals per week—highest in over 10 years—totaling 18,048 deportations in the 2024–2025 fiscal year at a cost of $78 million.
Most deportees were failed refugee claimants (about 83%), followed by those removed for criminality (around 4%).
Canada has allocated $30.5 million for removals and $1.3 billion for border security.
Despite stricter policies, Canada remains a top destination for Nigerians, with over 71,000 becoming citizens since 2005 and 6,600 gaining permanent residency in early 2024.
