Taipei and New Taipei City launch QR code payments for MRT and buses on Jan. 3, 2026, with cashback incentives.

Starting January 3, 2026, Taipei and New Taipei City introduced QR code payments for their MRT and city buses, supporting five mobile apps and nine financial institutions via the TWQR platform, plus three additional wallets. Users must maintain positive balances and use the same account to enter and exit. Frequent riders still earn monthly cashback. To celebrate, EasyCard Corp. offers 50% fare cashback up to NT$33 for the first 100,000 new EasyWallet users through February 28, and a NT$50 voucher for 10,000 users who ride three times weekly.
