A senior railway police officer, Rajesh Kumar Singh, was arrested on January 1, 2026, in connection with a November 2025 gold heist on the Howrah–Bikaner Express, where ₹1.44 crore in gold biscuits was stolen. Initially believed to involve rogue officers, the case took a dramatic turn when the lead investigator became a suspect. Evidence including call records and location data led to Singh’s arrest, along with four suspended constables and other suspects. The victim, a gold trader’s employee, said he was abducted at Gaya Junction, taken to a water bottling plant, and forced to surrender the gold, which was melted down. Authorities are searching for additional suspects, including a goldsmith and a driver, and investigating potential systemic failures in the initial probe.
