Pakistan’s federal cabinet has approved another delay in Islamabad’s local government elections, pushing them further under a new ordinance aligning the capital’s process with Punjab’s model.
The move, backed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, includes provisions for non-cash compensation and interest on delayed payments.
The cabinet also advanced economic reforms, including the privatization of 75% of Pakistan International Airlines and adjustments to electricity levies.
Sharif cited improved GDP growth and strengthened ties with Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
The elections, previously set for February 15, 2026, remain postponed without a new date.
