Norway saw 95.9% of new car sales as electric in 2025, driven by tax breaks and a pre-2026 fee hike.
Norway recorded a 95.9% share of electric vehicle sales among new car registrations, up from 88.9% in 2024, with December reaching nearly 98%, according to the Norwegian Road Federation. A total of 179,549 new cars were registered—40% more than in 2024—driven by tax incentives and a rush to beat new $5,000 value-added taxes starting January 1, 2026. Tesla led sales with 19.1% market share and 27,621 units sold, its highest annual total in Norway, despite declining EV demand across much of Europe. Most fossil fuel vehicles registered were specialized models, as Norway’s tax policies continue to favor EVs.
