A new power project in Laos, backed by China, began construction to boost grid stability and clean energy development.
A groundbreaking ceremony in Vientiane, Laos, marked the start of the 230 kV Thavieng-Mahaxay power project, operated by EDL-T, a joint venture between China Southern Power Grid and Laos’s state-owned utility.
The project aims to strengthen the northern-central grid, improve transmission efficiency, and boost system stability.
EDL-T, now in its second year, has trained over 2,000 Lao professionals, including 161 in the past year, and construction on the China-Laos 500 kV interconnection is 86% complete.
Officials praised the initiative for advancing energy cooperation and supporting Laos’ clean energy and economic development.
