Ladakh’s LG regains power to approve projects up to $12M, reversing 2025 centralization.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has restored the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh’s authority to approve projects up to Rs 100 crore, reversing a 2025 decision that had centralized approval powers.
The move, effective under the Delegation of Financial Powers Rules, 2024, allows the LG to approve projects with consultation from the UT’s Finance Secretary and Financial Advisor, subject to budget availability.
The powers cannot be re-delegated, and quarterly reports on approved projects must be submitted to the Department of Expenditure via the MHA.
The decision, cleared by the Ministry of Finance, aims to improve administrative efficiency and local autonomy in Union Territories.
