The Gambia’s university renamed its agriculture school to honor former AfDB chief Akinwumi Adesina for his major development impact.
The University of The Gambia has renamed its School of Agriculture and Environmental Services to honor Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, former African Development Bank president, for his transformative work in African agriculture and development.
President Adama Barrow unveiled a commemorative plaque, recognizing Adesina’s leadership from 2015 to 2025, during which the AfDB’s capital grew to $318 billion, maintained a AAA rating, and launched initiatives like Feed Africa and TAAT, supporting over 104 million people.
The bank also funded the Senegambia Bridge, enhancing regional connectivity.
The renaming, announced by Education Minister Prof. Pierre Gomez, aims to inspire students, following Adesina’s 2023 receipt of The Gambia’s highest honor.
