British horse trainer Ian Balding, winner of the 1971 Epsom Derby, has died at 87.

At the age of 87, Ian Balding, a renowned British horse trainer best known for helping Mill Reef win the 1971 Epsom Derby, passed away. A former jockey who won the Cheltenham Festival, he developed a prosperous training career at Kingsclere, leading several Group One winners, such as Selkirk and Glint of Gold. After retiring in 2002 and passing his license to his son Andrew, a multiple Classic winner, he trained horses for the late Queen Elizabeth II.
