Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons were denied water for up to 12 hours in 2024, amid food shortages and no official investigation.
A report by Israel’s Public Defender’s Office reveals Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons were denied drinking water for up to 12 hours during 2024, with some incidents lasting half a day, described as collective punishment linked to the war in Gaza.
The findings, based on inspections at Ketziot Prison, also cited severe food shortages and inadequate nutrition after canteens were closed post-October 7, 2023.
The Israel Prison Service denied the allegations, and no official investigation has been launched.
The report adds to international concerns over detention conditions, with over 10,000 Palestinian detainees held, including women and children, amid ongoing conflict and humanitarian scrutiny.
