Minnesota raises boat fees to fight invasive species and expands hunting methods for deer in 2026.
Starting January 1, 2026, Minnesota will raise watercraft license surcharges to combat invasive species, increasing fees from $10.60 to $14–$62 based on boat size, type, and use, with licenses valid for three years—the first change since 2019.
Additionally, deer hunters in southern Minnesota will no longer be limited to shotguns, muzzleloaders, or handguns during the firearm season, gaining more flexibility in hunting methods.
These updates are part of new state laws taking effect in 2026.
