India’s first bullet train launches August 15, 2027, on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route, cutting travel time to two hours.
On August 15, 2027, India's first bullet train will begin service on the 508-kilometer Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor, reducing travel time between the cities to about two hours.
The project will be completed in phases, beginning with the Surat-Bilimora section and then expanding to Vapi, Ahmedabad, and Thane, with full operations expected by 2029.
Trains will travel at speeds of up to 320 km/h, with more than 85% of the route built on elevated viaducts.
Key stations, including the Surat station, which is 26.3 meters tall and inspired by the city's diamond industry, are nearing completion.
The government is also developing a Vande Bharat Sleeper train to meet the growing demand for overnight travel.
