India’s aviation regulator warns Air India over unsafe 787 flight amid repeated technical failures.
India's aviation regulator, the DGCA, has issued a show-cause notice to Air India for operating a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, VT-ANI, on June 28, 2025, despite known technical issues. The notice cites noncompliance with the Minimum Equipment List, unsafe aircraft dispatch, and crew decisions on Delhi-Tokyo flights AI 258 and AI 357, which resulted in repeated system failures and poor performance. The aircraft had five previous incidents of similar faults, including a June 28 flight with a malfunctioning recirculation fan and a diversion due to high cabin heat. The DGCA has asked Air India and the involved pilot to respond within 14 days, with potential enforcement action pending. This comes after a fatal 2024 Dreamliner crash and other safety lapses, raising concerns about systemic issues with the airline's operations.
