Barrie canceled New Year’s Eve festivities due to a dangerous snowstorm, rescheduling for February 2026.
Barrie, Ont., has canceled its New Year’s Eve celebration due to a severe snow squall warning from Environment Canada, which forecasted near-zero visibility, heavy snowfall, and hazardous travel conditions.
Officials cited public safety concerns, including risks to attendees, staff, performers, and vendors, and noted up to 25 cm of additional snow was expected.
The event, featuring a performance by Kim Mitchell and fireworks, will be rescheduled for February 7–8, 2026, as part of Winterfest.
On-street parking will be restricted in downtown areas to aid snow removal.
