The YWCA of NorthEastern New York has started construction on the $50 million Harbor House project in Schenectady, a two-year redevelopment of its historic campus that will renovate 42 existing units and add 54 new single and family housing units.
Funded in part by $24 million in state Low-Income Housing Tax Credit funds and additional support from federal and local sources, the project aims to expand affordable housing as part of Governor Hochul’s broader $25 billion initiative.
Work includes abatement, demolition, and winter construction, with the YWCA continuing essential services like childcare and domestic violence support despite the temporary closure of its physical facility.
