Union minister urges Tamil Nadu to adopt NEP 2020, amid language dispute and Supreme Court intervention.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has urged Tamil Nadu to implement the National Education Policy 2020, emphasizing Tamil as the medium of instruction up to standard five.
The demand comes amid a longstanding dispute over the NEP’s three-language formula, which Tamil Nadu opposes, particularly the inclusion of Hindi.
In response, Tamil Nadu introduced a two-language policy in August 2025.
The issue has reached the Supreme Court, which on December 15 directed the state to discuss establishing Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas with the Centre, stressing the need to avoid language-based conflicts and expand rural education access.
Meanwhile, Pradhan praised the fourth Kashi Tamil Sangamam, a cultural event promoting ties between Varanasi and Rameswaram under the 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat' initiative.
