New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs faces a felony strangulation charge and a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from an alleged December 2 incident involving a former private chef, according to court records and police reports.
The woman, who worked for Diggs, said he slapped her and attempted to choke her during a dispute over unpaid wages, causing her to struggle to breathe and feel lightheaded.
She initially delayed filing charges but did so on December 22.
Diggs’ attorney denies all allegations, calling them unsubstantiated and tied to a financial dispute.
The Patriots support Diggs, who has denied the claims, and say they will cooperate with authorities and the NFL.
A hearing was held on December 30, and Diggs is scheduled to be arraigned on January 23, two days before the AFC Championship Game.
The case remains under investigation.
