Northwestern has hired Chip Kelly as its new offensive coordinator, marking his return to college football after being let go by the Las Vegas Raiders following a 2-9 start in the 2024 season.
Kelly, a 62-year-old veteran with 35 years of coaching experience, previously led Oregon, UCLA, and the Philadelphia Eagles, and played a key role in Ohio State’s 2024 national championship season.
The hire, announced on December 30, 2025, is seen as a major step in the program’s development under head coach David Braun, who praised Kelly’s innovative offensive systems and alignment with the team’s values.
Northwestern, which went 7-6 in 2025, replaces Zach Lujan as coordinator.
