A major high-altitude solar project in Batang County, Sichuan Province, began operating on December 31, 2025, marking a key advance in China’s clean energy push.
Developed by China Huadian Corporation, the 1.2 million-kilowatt plant spans 1,666.7 hectares at elevations of 4,000 to 5,100 meters, featuring 2.17 million solar panels, transmission lines, and intelligent booster stations.
It overcame extreme altitude, cold, seismic risks, and unstable soil, creating over 2,000 local jobs.
Once fully operational, it will generate 2.1 billion kilowatt-hours annually, saving 640,000 tonnes of coal and cutting over 1.7 million tonnes of CO2 emissions, supporting China’s energy security and carbon neutrality goals.
