Kentucky Power approved to raise bills $2.33/month for plant upgrades, with a $6.40 refund coming in 2026.
The Kentucky Public Service Commission has approved Kentucky Power’s plan to continue investing in its share of the aging Mitchell Generating Station, allowing the utility to recover upgrade costs through a $2.33 monthly increase in the average residential bill.
The decision, made on December 30, 2025, follows a settlement with industrial customers and comes despite prior rejection of the project and concerns over Kentucky Power’s lack of a long-term alternative energy plan.
The approval is limited to specific upgrades and requires annual reporting through 2031.
Customers will also receive a $6.40 monthly refund in early 2026 due to prior overcharges.
