A 29-year-old Kansas City man, Michael V. Jackson, has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in connection with a December 22 shooting near the University of Kansas Hospital, where he allegedly shot a man he claimed attacked him after exiting a bus.
The victim, struck in the head, is in stable condition.
Jackson turned himself in, saying he acted in self-defense and intended to shoot only the shoulder.

Meanwhile, Ryan Hawk, 29, faces second-degree murder and other charges in a separate December 27 shooting in Northeast Kansas City, where he admitted to killing a man during an argument, claiming he feared for his life.
