India sends top diplomat to Bangladesh’s state funeral for former PM Khaleda Zia, who died Dec. 30 at 80.
The state funeral of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who passed away in Dhaka at the age of 80 following a protracted illness, will be attended by India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Zia, the first female prime minister of Bangladesh and the head of the BNP, died on December 30, 2025, as a result of pneumonia, liver cirrhosis, and heart problems.
Her funeral is scheduled for December 31 at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, and she will be buried at Zia Udyan.
Despite recent tensions, the presence of India's top diplomat shows that diplomatic relations are still intact.
In remembrance of her legacy and contributions to Indo-Bangladeshi relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences.
