India's army hospital performs first 3D-guided glaucoma surgery using advanced imaging and real-time visualization.
India’s Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in Delhi has performed the nation’s first 3D flex aqueous angiography combined with iStent, a minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, using advanced 3D imaging and real-time visualization of eye fluid drainage.
The procedure, enabled by a stand-mounted Spectralis system and 3D operating microscope, improves surgical precision and long-term outcomes for glaucoma patients, a leading cause of irreversible blindness.
The breakthrough, praised by the defence ministry, strengthens vision preservation and operational readiness within the armed forces and marks a major advancement in ophthalmic care, following the hospital’s earlier achievement in robotic cataract surgery.
