A CSX train derailed in Kentucky, spilling molten sulfur and triggering a fire, but no one was hurt.
On December 30, 2025, a CSX freight train derailed in rural Todd County, Kentucky, involving 31 rail cars.
One of the rail cars leaked molten sulfur, starting a fire.
Due to dangerous fumes, a half-mile shelter-in-place order was issued in the vicinity of Trenton, approximately 55 miles northwest of Nashville.
However, it was lifted by 11 a.m. after air quality tests verified safe conditions.
Emergency personnel put out the fire and contained the spill, and no injuries were reported.
The cause is being looked into, the locomotive stayed on course, and cleanup is ongoing.
