China hit its 2025 growth target of 5%, Xi says, amid challenges and plans for next phase.

On December 31, 2025, Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that the country had achieved its 2025 economic growth target of approximately 5%, indicating a successful year in spite of obstacles like low consumer demand, debt problems in the real estate sector, and trade tensions. In order to ensure a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), which focuses on sustainable growth, innovation, and social stability, he called for strong coordination and emphasized the completion of the 14th Five-Year Plan with national strength at a new level. Xi called for cooperation and further advancements in China's modernization.
